Niman Denatsu

The reborn version of legendary punk venue 20000V — still loud, still underground, still Koenji's hardcore home base.

Niman Denatsu ("20,000 volts") picked up where the original Koenji 20000V left off after a 2009 fire forced that venue to close. Reopened nearby in 2010 by the same staff, it kept the name's spirit and the reputation — a small, loud basement room built for punk, noise, hardcore and metal, with a sound system that lives up to its name.

The room holds around 130 people, and there's a soundproofed bar area separated from the stage where you can recover between bands. It remains one of the anchor venues of Koenji's underground scene.

The current room sits in Higashi-Koenji, a short walk from the station — the same DIY spirit as the original 20000V, just a new address after the fire.

What Visitors Are Saying

The consensus paints 20000V as a proper punk venue — small room, serious sound system, and shows that reviewers say start right on time. Several mention it's an easy trip by subway, right next to a convenience store for pre-show snacks.

The one consistent complaint across otherwise strong reviews is the restroom, which more than one reviewer flags as rough — worth knowing going in. Multiple reviewers also recommend picking up earplugs given the volume.
